DROWNING POOL TO Cover METALLICA On "OZZFEST 2002" CD
July 26, 2002DROWNING POOL's rendition of the METALLICA classic "Creeping Death" was reportedly recorded last week at the Massachusetts stop of Ozzfest for the forthcoming Ozzfest 2002 live album, due in August.
Commented singer Dave Williams to Launch: "You know a lot of people would go, 'Well that doesn't surprise me. They're a heavy band.' But we love METALLICA, and that's a great song. And I thought it would be a nice way for us to say, 'Thank you' to the fans for sticking with us for this whole year-and-a-half. And it's been a wild ride, and it's going to be a while before we see some of these people, so I thought it would be a nice thing to say, 'Thanks. Here's some METALLICA.' Which, everybody loves METALLICA. It works out for everybody. We get off on it. They get off on it.
"If you're going to [cover a song like that], do it right and just pick something that's not going to totally freak the audience out. It can work two ways. You can take a cover song that nobody would expect you to do and that can work to your advantage because I've seen bands do it. Or you can play it safe and people will go, 'Man! That is so cool!'"
